A subscription has more than a name and a price. Its duration, plan, account requirements and renewal rules determine whether it is right for you.
1. Plan and included access
Check the full plan name. Individual, family, team and trial plans can have different terms. Verify the features you need against the service’s official description, not just a familiar logo.
For gaming subscriptions, check supported devices and whether the content you want is included in the current plan. For work software, check features, usage limits and permitted account types. Plan contents can change: an old review is not a substitute for current terms.
2. Duration and start date
“One month” does not tell you when the month starts. Before paying, find out what starts the period, whether the code has an activation deadline and whether it can be redeemed later.
If you already have an active subscription, check compatibility separately. A new code may have restrictions for existing subscribers. Do not assume that prepaid periods can always be added together.
3. Account conditions
Check the account country, whether you count as a new or existing user, and the conditions of the particular offer. A promotion “for new users” does not become unrestricted when bought from another seller.
The activation method should be clear: a code, an official invitation or another method supported by the platform. For a family group or organisation, establish who controls access and what membership rules the service sets.
4. Automatic renewal
After activation, check the end date, renewal status and payment method within the service itself. Keep confirmation. If you do not want automatic renewal, find the official instructions for turning it off for your purchase method.
Microsoft subscription details appear under Services & subscriptions. Microsoft distinguishes recurring subscriptions from prepaid ones; when recurring billing is turned off, the paid period runs until its expiry. These rules should not automatically be applied to other platforms. Source: managing Microsoft subscriptions.
5. Support and disputes
Before buying, find the delivery terms and a way to contact the seller. Ask what to do if a code cannot be applied, activates a different plan or provides a different access period from the description. Do not rely on an offer to “sort it out later”.
Keep the order and activation confirmation. When contacting support, describe the expected result, the actual result and the exact error. Do not share passwords or sign-in codes with strangers or in public comments.
